Debra Hendrickson, M.D., is a board-certified pediatrician practicing in Reno, Nevada—the fastest-warming city in the United States. She is the author of The Air They Breathe, a book on climate change's impacts on children, published in July 2024 by Simon & Schuster. She is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where she lectures on how early childhood experiences (such as poverty and trauma) affect long-term health. Dr. Hendrickson graduated with honors in Environmental Studies from Brown University before serving with the Peace Corps in Ecuador. She then worked as an environmental analyst in New England and Seattle for ten years before attending medical school as a single mother of 3 children. In her training she received many awards for leadership, research, and academic achievement. Dr. Hendrickson is a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the AAP’s Council on Environmental Health, and a founding member of Nevada Clinicians for Climate Action.
